Floridians may see $1,000 rebates this winter, and residents in Montana have until October 1 to claim a $400 rebate. But thankfully, the state has three different programs that might put some money back in your pocket. In addition, an online lookup tool from the state can help find the nearest assistance.The status of a rebate can be checked using the “Where’s My Rebate? ” tool on myPATH, requiring a Social Security number, claim year and date of birth. Though the payouts were first issued in October and continue on a rolling basis, the deadline to apply officially passed at the end of December. The state will send letters in “late 2025″ to explain how your benefits were calculated.

How are the Property Tax/Rent Rebates funded?

If it is a joint application, the surviving spouse/civil union partner must also sign (if filing by paper). If you are not currently receiving STAR, but believe you may qualify for the rebate, you can submit an application. The ANCHOR (Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters) Property Tax Relief Program is part of the Governor’s FY2023 Budget Proposal, which will be unveiled next week. Under the Murphy Administration, New Jersey has seen the lowest cumulative average property tax increase on record for a governor at this point in his or her term. Also, renters making up to $100,000 per year are eligible for a rebate up to $250 to help defray the cost of rent increases due to property taxes. “This program will provide direct property tax relief to households regardless of whether they own or rent,” said Governor Murphy. “While the state does not set property taxes, we believe that we must take action to offset costs and make life in New Jersey more affordable.

Application Deadline

To qualify, the property must be located in Montana and the owner must have been billed and paid property taxes on their principal residence, including special assessments, for the 2024 tax year. Residents eligible for both programs would not get multiple payouts, though. New Jersey Senate Bill 3693/Assembly Bill 4706 (the “Bill”) was signed into legislation by Gov. Phil Murphy on November 1, 2024.1 The Bill focuses on implementing the new Stay NJ property tax relief program and impacts several other state property tax relief programs. Any remaining rebate amount will be sent to you after the obligation is paid. Online filing is now available via the New Jersey Department of the Treasury’s website. Eligibility and rebate amounts are based on annual income and property taxes or rent paid in the prior year. Eligible homeowners can apply online, by phone, or via paper application, which can be downloaded online and returned by mail.

The Senior Freeze Program reimburses eligible senior citizens and disabled persons for property tax or mobile home park site fee increases on their principal residence (main home). I received a letter asking me to provide more information. How can I submit my additional information?

If you rented a condominium unit or a unit in a cooperative housing complex, you are considered a renter for purposes of applying for the ANCHOR benefit. If you owned or rented a mobile home that was located in a mobile home park, you are considered a renter for purposes of applying for the ANCHOR benefit. The address you use to claim the ANCHOR benefit must have been your main home on October 1, 2024. In general, your residence must have been subject to property tax. A personal representative filing on behalf of a deceased renter must sign in his or her official capacity.
